Once you know what a metaphor is, there shouldn't be any difficulty in using it. Metaphor describes something in a non-literal manner, as something which it actually isn't, in order to make a poetic statement. For example, let us say we are talking about a violent person; I could call him a "killing machine" even though he is in reality a person and not a machine.
