How do you use perilously in a sentence?

Because perilous is an adjective, one could think that it would go along with the subject; however there are numerous places in which it belongs in the predicate of a sentence, e.g. "This is quite perilous." Most cases where "perilous" appears in the predicate include a helping verb, e.g. in the sentence above, "is." For a regular sentence, e.g. "This perilous mission should not be taken lightly," the adjective, i.e. "perilous," appears before the subject, "mission."
