You shouldn't even try to wash it yourself. If the cleaning instructions say to dry clean only, then it's for a reason, and you could damage it by washing it in the washing machine.

Even though polyester is normally very durable in the washer, it's possible that washing it could damage the filling, cause it to "lump up" or discolor it. But if you absolutely can't, or don't want to pay for dry cleaning, I would recommend one of the washers (at laundromats if you don't have one) that don't have the tall agitagor in the tub like the older, more traditional models do, and use the gentle setting with cold water.

Can you wash 55 percent wool and 45 percent polyester dry clean only pants?

NO!!!!! Dry clean only if you want to perserve the quality of the suit. I would also hope that whatever color your suit is...you have another suit of that color so you aren't constantly taking it into the cleaners which over time wears on the material.

Can you throw a down comforter in the washer and dryer?

This depends greatly on the type of comforter you have purchased. I have personally owned down comforters that have been both machine washable and professional clean only. The key is to have a washer that is large enough to properly clean your comforter. Unless the tag specifically notes that the comforter can be put in the dryer, it is best to line dry a down comforter to maintain it fluff. Many comforters also have individually sewn panels, which can shrink disproportionately in the dryer and warp the shape of your comforter.

Does a comforter cover mean I wont need to wash the comforter?

Getting a comforter cover means that you wont have to wash your comforter as often as you otherwise would have. for people who have down comforters that are dry clean only this can be a god send because it allows them to wash their bedding without a trip to the dry cleaner.

How to Care for a Down Comforter?

A down comforter looks soft and inviting and is a luxurious addition to any bedding. But down comforters also require special maintenance to keep them looking clean, new and soft. The upkeep isn’t hard, but it is important. Here are some of the things needed to keep your comforter looking new. Always keep a cover on your comforter. This protects it from dirt, debris and body oils. This also allows you to wash the cover without washing the actual comforter. Down comforters cannot be washed in a regular washer and dryer, so keeping it covered is vital. It is not recommended to wash your comforter yourself. You should fluff up your comforter each day, and air it out occasionally. To air it out, simply hang it on a clothes line on a sunny day, or shake it out while outside. This keeps the comforter looking and smelling fresh. If you do this on a regular basis, it should maintain its fluffiness. Because the comforter can’t be washed regularly, you will want to have it dry cleaned every few years. Having it cleaned every three to five years or so should be sufficient. This will keep it clean but also minimize the amount of chemicals and cleaners used on your comforter. Frequent washing can damage the comforter, and it also causes the comforter to shrink slightly. To keep the comforter fluffy, it’s best to keep from sitting or lying on top of it. The down, when repeatedly crushed can get worn down and break, which means your comforter will no longer be fluffy. Use the comforter only as a top layer and not something to lie on. Should you ever need to store your comforter, place it in a well-ventilated and dry area. This helps prevent mildew. You should also bring the blanket out of storage now and again to air it out and ensure that it is dry and safe. A down comforter is a great cover for any bed. They are warm and comforting as well as luxurious. As long as you care for the comforter and keep it clean, you should be able to enjoy your comforter for many years.

How can you remove a cat urine smell from a old dry clean only jacket?

Take it to the drycleaner and mention the pet stains when dropping it off. It will most likely need to be washed to really get all the urine out, and most dry cleaners don't want to put urine in their solvent anyway. Washing will make the comforter smell much better, reducing your aggravation over paying for it to be cleaned and then still having an odor, and reduce the likelihood of your cat smelling the urine and continuing to urinate on the comforter in the future. It would be advisable to take a large (Queen or King) comforter to a dry cleaners or a laundromat with extra large capacity machines for best results. Most home washer/dryers are not equipped to handle such heavy and large loads, and if there is not ample drying room in the dryer the comforter either won't dry, may damage the dryer, and have been known to catch on fire. However, with washing a dry clean only comforter, you run the risk of shrinkage, color fade, the stuffing clumping, and depending on age and material, the fibers literally falling apart. If the comforter's material is polyester and/or down, washing should be fine. Acetate, silk, or rayon run higher risks of the aforementioned risks.
