The easiest way is to buy and install a plug in wiring harness available at most parts store.

It isn't there, Dodge didn't wire the Dakota with one. You will have to wire the brake controller your self.
the tn/rd wire is a power feed the dg wire feeds the trailer brakes. the wt/tn wire is the brake switch input. the bk wire is ground
You will have to buy a harness from the Dodge dealer that will let the trailer lights work without messing with the computer that runs the taillights on the truck. The kit will have the harness and instructions. If you hard wire the trailer into the truck taillights the "lamp out" light will come on on the dash and the turnsignals will flash fast.

You can hot wire a boat. It just matters what type it is.
Make certain that the wiring is connected properly but also, check the ground wire. Don't count on the hitch to be the ground for the trailer. There should be a ground wire that goes to the electrical plug, make certain that it is connected properly.
