You can't , without knowing which winding is which . 9 times out of 10 it will just trip your protection device if it's connected wrong . U need to watch for it starting i'n forward i'n star but when it kicks into delta goes i'n reverse . If u take the motor to a winding shop they should be able to identifie which winding is which .

How can a dlta connected motor be converted in star?

If the motor terminal has six terminals in the terminal box, then it can be connected either in delta or star. If there are only 3 terminal wires then the motor can not be connected in star.(it means that the motor is designed to be connected in delta only)

How can you wire a 6-pole isolator to disconnect a 6-wire star delta motor away from the mcc and near to the motor?

There is no need to place a 6 pole disconnect to isolate the motor in the field. The motor's leads at the motor's terminal box have to be wired for a delta connection. The star delta contactor in the MCC only has three wires on its output. Six wires do not have to be taken directly to the motor. The voltage is reduced at the start of the circuit when the starter in in the star configuration. From the star configuration it changes to the delta configuration. So as you can see only a three pole isolation switch is needed in the field to isolate the motor from its supply.

How are the windings of a star delta motor tested?

In a 3 phase induction motor there is 6 wires frm the windings.Inwhich ,we can measure ohms value between each other.there are 2 different ohms value between each pair of three wires. lets say,10 ohm and 30 ohm.low voltage and high voltage side.can anyone say is it right to find the wingings of star and delta side?

Why motor is connected in star connection first in star delta starter?

To use a star delta starter, the motor must be a three phase six wire motor. The extra wires out are the wires that are usually terminated in the motor housing as the star point. The starter, when energized, brings the star contactor in and closes the star point coil ends. An external timer times out after the motor gets up to speed in the star connection and drops the star contactor and closes the delta contactor. When in the delta connection the motor coils are then paralleled to allow the motor to run at full voltage.

What is the easiest method of reversing the direction of rotation of a 3 phase induction motor controlled by star-delta starter?

Just swap two of the phases over. <<>> Care must be taken when swapping wires on a star delta system. Reversing the wrong set in the motor box and getting the wrong wires could accidently reverse the wrong set of windings. This would cause the star magnetic to be rotating in the correct rotation and then when it switches to delta the motor tries to reverse causing a locked rotor condition and spiking the voltage very high and hopefully tripping the overload protection. The correct place to swap the two legs is at the supply side of the star contactor.

What will happen when motor is connected to star?

If the motor is designed to operate on star (wye) then it is fine. If it is designed to operate on delta, then you need to consider that star will present lower operating voltage than delta, and that might damage the motor. Some motors are designed to start on star and run on delta. Usually, this applies to larger motors, and cannot be overlooked. If there are only three wires (ignoring chassis ground), then the motor is intended for delta. If there are only four wires, the the motor is intended for star. If there are six wires, then the motor is intended for star-delta. Of course, the starter controls could be integrated with the motor, so it is best to consult the name plate and operate the motor exactly as it was designed.

What are the advantages of using a delta connection?

A delta connection requires only three wires while a Y connection requires 4 wires.

What does an electromagnet do when it is connected with wires and a motor?

It causes the motor to spin.

Looking for a connection wiring diagram for 30 HP 3 phase 380 volt motor?

The connection wiring diagram is usually on the inside of the motor's junction box cover. If the motor has three wires at the junction box then these wires are connected to the three incoming supply wires. If there is more than three wires, check the motor's nameplate to see if the motor is a dual voltage motor.

How do you wire a 220 volt motor with 6 wires?

you have to ohm out the wires the start windings will have a higher resistance and the run windings will have a lower resistance if you have 6 wires then you may have a dual motor 1start winding and 2 run windings each having 2 wires the start windings and the run windings are all hooked up in parallel with the start capacitor hooked up in series with the start winding

How many wires are used to power a conventional dc motor?
