But the ancient Romans would have chosen MMLXXXIIII for the equivalent 2084 because under no circumstances whatsoever would they ever write out the equivalent of 4 as IV for by doing so it was considered to be an insult to their mightiest of gods Jupiter whose Latin name begins with IV thus by doing so would have meant reducing their god Jupiter to a number and not a name.

This superstition still remains with us today because most clocks and watches with Roman numerals always use IIII for the equivalent of 4 instead of IV
