You use your imagination, like all writers do!
First, imagine why someone would be haunting your desk - what kind of ghost would want to hang around a desk? What kind of situation would make them haunt that item of furniture? Were they murdered or is there something they left unfinished in their life that they need to stay and see done?
Second, imagine what the ghost looks and acts like - are they a spooky ghost or do they just look like a regular person, only see-through?
Then, imagine what you would do if you found a haunted desk - how would you respond? Would you be scared?
