A VERY SIMPLE EXAMPLE:

Harry, Ron, and Hermione go out searching for Horcruxes so they can defeat Voldemort. They destroy all but one (so they think). They discover that the last Horcrux is in Hogwarts. They go to find it, there's a great battle, many beloved characters die, Ron and Hermione finally kiss, and they kill Voldemort. And they live happily ever after.
