There are several things that should be added in a letter is the date that was missed. The person should include why they missed the date and explain that it won't happen again.

There are no set lengths of time to which one may be sentenced for "contempt of court." It's entirely up to the judge. A letter should be written to the judge if an extension is needed for a court appearance. It should state the date of the court appearance and the reason needed for the extension.
