What makes a Scary Horror Movies?

Well, there's no real way of doing one, but you need a few key points:

1) A spooky setting -- e.g. an abandoned castle

2) A ghost/ monster -- you need to decide why they are there and what for

3) Ghostly/ eerie happenings -- e.g. things go missing etc.

4) Characters that find ghost/monster -- e.g. normally young adult/ child

5) A conclusion that makes the monster/ ghost go/stay for good

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT PUT: and they woke up and it was all a dream... that is no interesting and sounds like you couldn't think of a real way of ending it...

If you want to do this kind of thing though, i suppose you could do for example, in the 'dream' the character gets hurt. When the 'wake up' they suddenly notice that they are bleeding in the same place as when they got hurt in the 'dream'. This is a better ending as it creates mystery as the reader/ viewer is left wondering whether it was a dream or not. (( Kinda like the spinning top in Inception!))

A scary movie has to have a situation and/or characters that are actually scary. The element of surprise is desired in most cases. A good example of a scary movie would be Jason. This is a guy who is hard to kill and he just keeps popping up killing teenagers in compromising positions. The surprising thing is that the kids keep coming to the camp site where he has killed before.

With your imagination and some recording equipment. It's all fairly common sense when it comes to doing folley sounds for a film. You can record the sound of you breaking chicken bones or sticks to simulate breaking bones, stabbing fruit or a cushion of some kind to simulate stabbing someone, record girls with good screams, breaking glass, etc., etc., etc. Then just upload the sound files to your computer and then place them where needed in the film with your editing software.
