'This' in french is

ce, cet, cette, ces

ce for genderless things such as paper.......... ce papier

cet for male thing such as a man ................... cet homme

cette for female things such as a woman....... cette femme

ces for plural things such as these men......... ces hommes

"This is" would be 'ce est' but two 'e's together like this would get contracted to c'est.

this is paper...... c'est papier
