First you have to think about the purpose, application, and location of the car. After those 3 things have been taken into account. You then draw out a concept drawing of your car. Labeling certain things you want on it and certain things you dont want on it. After you have a basic ideal of what you want on your car. Take your drawing and put it into a 3d software. Examples are Solidworks, Rhino3d, Autodesk, and Google sketchbook. Using these you can develop the interior, engine bay and all the other ins and outs of your car. After that study up on chassis design and draw out your chassis. After you have that drawn out speak to a professional chassis designer and see if its structurally sound. If it is then decide if your going to use round tubing or square tubing for the chassis. After that start building the chassis by cutting and welding the pieces of the steel, aluminium, together. After that mount the engine inside the engine bay the along with the transmission depending on your layout. And connect the transaxle to the transmission put on the brakes and tires and install the steering column. Then start welding or riveting the bottom to close that off. Next you have to build the body by building a plug or mold and lay the piece of steel and bend it into shape or fibre glass or carbon fibre by using resin to hold its shape. Then attach it to the chassis connect the door hinges and connect the and connect the lights to the body and frame. Finally put carpet and and leather on the floors and attach the seat belt harness to the chassis. Next hid the internals and wires by by making carbon fibre panels connect inside to cover all the metal and make sure that all wires are securely covered and insulated. Make the panels easily to remove but not too assessable. Finally attach the seats and make a carbon fibre dash cover and by some dials and connect them to the engine and battery through a fuse box with an access panels somewhere not to conspicuous then carbon fibre the shaft channel and adorn it with leather or micro fibre to hide it and give it good visual appeal. Next connect the window motors and car lock system and mount those in the door and cover with carbon fibre panel. Lastly connect the ignition system to the dash key switch and drive it around to get a good feel for the car. Then take it to the motor vesicle along with all the blueprints to get a vin number for it. Then to get smog tested for emissions attach it to your insurance and whola you have your self a homemade car.
