I'd get the Clymer manual for the car (at your local O'Reily shop) then follow the directions in the manual
The 1996 Mercury cooling fan relay switch is on the back of the cooling fan motor. The relay switch should be labeled as such.
I speak from experience on this one question. First you lift the hatch back of the wagon up and look under the right hand speaker. there should be a flap with a finger pull. Pull that tab and you should see the switch
Look for it in the fuel line from the engine back to the tank. Special tools are required and the parts store should show you how to use them
back of the engine in the middle at the top of the block
I was looking at the ( 1998 ) Mercury Tracer Owner Guide and it shows to : Move the back tires to the front ( staying on the same side of the vehicle ) and then take the two front tires and put them on the back ( crossing over to the opposite side of the vehicle )
push back and lift the front up the back is on tabs make shure there are back in place when puting it in

To fix the radio in a 1997 Mercury Tracer, start by checking the fuse related to the radio in the fuse box, as a blown fuse can cause it to stop working. If the fuse is intact, inspect the wiring harness and connections at the back of the radio for any loose or damaged wires. If everything appears intact, you may need to remove the radio and test it with a multimeter or replace it if it's malfunctioning. Reinstall the radio and reconnect all components securely to ensure proper functionality.
You should find it in the trunk compartment. Mine is located on the right hand side as you are looking forward from the back.
Along both sides of the block below the head. Several in the head and two on the back of the block between the motor and the transmission.
Well unfortunately the water pump is in behind the timing belt and the serpentine belt and you have to take all that off to get to the water pump. In the process of doing it now. Not a whole lot of room in there to work on. Once you replace the water pump, then you can put the timing belt back in (make sure timing marks are in place). Then move on to putting serpentine belt back on and all the rest that you had to remove to get to the water pump.
You may be better off getting a used hatch out of a junk yard.
