There are many functions needed in order for us to have vision. First, and most importantly, the nerve(s) attached to our retinas which send messages to the vision area of our brains, must be healthy and intact. If they are not, our brains do not get the "message" to engage in vision, which results in blindness.
If our retinas are healthy, and the vision message is sent to our brain, then our eyes are able to process what we are seeing. Also, the eyeballs themselves must be appropriately aligned. The iris (color of our eyes) aids in vision, and in conjunction with the brain helps us to distinguish color.
It is the retina of ours eyes that is the most crucial in our ability to have vision.

The basic function of eye is to see the thing around us.
The receptor cells help us see the color, but light lets us see. Our eye gets the light to the retina and it processes the light to create a image
The special neurons in the eye that help us see color are called cone cells. These cells are responsible for detecting and processing different wavelengths of light, allowing us to perceive color.

Rods and cones are photoreceptor cells in the eye that help us see colors. Cones are responsible for detecting different colors, while rods help us see in low light. Together, they work to transmit signals to the brain, allowing us to perceive and distinguish various colors in our surroundings.
A bionic lens helps you see, but a bionic eye is a new eye that can help you see even though it's not your eye.
