Zoo's, mostly accredited ones, help to aide the efforts of organizations in the conservation of the orangutan. For a long time they have been on the endangered list , but with the help of conservatories and zoo's there numbers have increased.
Orangutans only live wild in Sumatra and Borneo. Both of those islands are part of Asia. However, there are orangutans in zoos worldwide.

they may become as advanced as us in the future.
Well, the Orangutans main threat is the destruction of the forest that they live in. Us humans are cutting down their forests and rain forests for the use of toilet paper, paper, furniture and for the space for growing palm oil. Poachers are also killing them for their meat, and selling them to zoos, and for pets.I'm dioing a project on Orangutans so I know all about them.R.U04/07/2013

A group of orangutans is called a "Congress".E.G. The local zoo has a congress of Orangutans on show.
Both female and male orangutans are called the same.
Orangutans are herbivores. They do not have prey.
As of recent estimates, there are approximately 1,000 to 2,000 orangutans in captivity worldwide. This number includes individuals in zoos, sanctuaries, and rehabilitation centers. The exact figure can vary due to ongoing conservation efforts and changes in population management. Many captive orangutans are involved in breeding programs aimed at preserving the species, which faces significant threats in the wild.
