It is by disrupting photosynthesis that atrazine kills weeds.
Specifically, the herbicide in question binds to a plant-specific protein. It thereby interferes with a plant's electron transport chains. These chains play critical roles in producing energy from sunlight and oxidizing sugars. Their malfunction will cause a plant's starvation and prevent a plant's carrying out life-sustaining activities.
I use Atrazine. It is real effective for dollarweed and other broadleaf weeds.
Bermuda grass is not tolerant of atrazine and it can possibly kill the grass. Certainly some state agricultural agencies recommend using atrazine to control weeds in Bermuda grass, but its use should probable be limited to times when the average temperatures are at or below 50 oF, i.e. when the Bermuda grass is dormant.See http://commodities.caes.uga.edu/turfgrass/georgiaturf/WeedMngt/weedcontrol/ATHCAL01.pdf
2-3 weeks
The weed killer atrazine can take 14-21 days to kill weeds. It works by inhibiting photosynthesis. It has to be absorbed by the plant (hopefully weeds) to stop photosynthesis; this is why it can take so long to work. Many people expect results within 3 days so they often cause damage to their grass via over-application. Two things that may effect the time it takes for noticeable results are: 1)the amount of atrazine the product contains and 2)if the product is time released, such as many of the weed and feeds (a fertilizer combined with weed killer).
No this does not kill weeds, It will only kill insects.
To kill weeds with Tipp-Ex just brush it over the weeds.
It does not actually kill actively growing weeds but it can be used as a natural way to prevent weeds.
