Dorothy Gale becomes involved with the goings-on in the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz, because she needs to get back home. Her family's farmhouse lands on top of, and kills, the Wicked Witch of the East. That earns her the gratitude of the Munchkins who had suffered from the Witch's rule over their blue country of the East. The accidental killing also earns Dorothy the Witch's Slippers. And unbeknownst to her, the Slippers have the secret power to get her back home. But this ignorance, which is due to no fault of her own, makes it necessary for Dorothy to seek help from first the Wizard, and then Glinda the Good Witch of the South. The search for help necessarily involves her - and her pet dog Toto, and the three friends that she makes along the way - in the goings-on of the lands and peoples of Oz.
