It's a very interesting question. Genesis 2:7 explains how did God create Adam, it says: "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
As you can see, it explains that man was not given a soul but that he BECAME a soul when God gave him life.

No. In fact the Bible teaches that a person is a soul, not given or in possession of a soul. Biblical translation of the word "soul" comes from the Hebrew "ne'phesh" and the Greek "psy-khe'". The usage of these words in the Bible indicates the life of a person or an animal, or that life which either that person or the animal enjoys. As brought out in Genesis 2:7, which reads, "Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." Here it shows that man was made into a "living soul," not given a soul. The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, along with the King James, AS, and Dy translations of the Bible have used the English word soul for the Hebrew translation of "ne'phesh." A few other translations of the Bible have deemed the word to be "being," "creature," or "person." According to 1 Corinthians 15:45, which reads "It is even so written: 'The first man Adam became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." So here, this text that is found in the Greek Scriptures, or Second Testament, agrees with that verse found in the Genesis account as to what a soul is. Also there are scriptures that describe people as being souls, such as the scripture in 1 Peter 3:20, which refers to Noah and his family being on the arc. Also the book of Joshua chapter 11 verse 11 says, "They went striking every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword." Here we see that the soul is something tangible, or something that can be touched, more specifically by the sword. Therefore, these souls could not have possibly been a spirit, or something that could be forced out of the body. Since the Bible teaches that a soul is a living being, it is not possible for a person's soul to be forced out then replaced.

Therefore even 'souls' DIE. Instead of teaching the 'immortality of the soul', the Bible teaches there will be a 'resurrection', 'on the last day'. Until then, the soul is DEAD.
