pH paper is a type of paper where any liquid can be put on it, and the paper would turn a certain color. The color would match up to a color on the pH scale.
It tests whether or not a substance is an acid or base
acid=1-6, neutral=7, base=8-14
You simply dip it in the substance.
It measures how acidic or basic a liquid (or something moist) is. pH 7 means something is neutral, below 7 means acidic and above 7 is basic. The scale goes between 0-14. It is a way to describe how many hydrogen ions that are present, the lower the pH the more hydrogen ions there is. In more detail, pH is a convenient way to express a value that requires some chemical education to really grasp. It refers to the concentration (expressed in moles per litre) of hydrogen ions (or more exactly, the H3O+ ion, which is the ion that makes acidic things acidic). The p stands for -log 10 and H is short for the H3O+ ion. In neutral water (pH = 7) the actual concentration of hydrogen ions (or H3O+ to be correct) is 0.0000001 mol/litre. At pH = 1 the concentration is 0.1 mol/litre. Mol is a number that describes how many atoms or molecules there is of something, since they can have such different weights it is more useful to say exactly how many there is by using the term mol (example: if there were 10 people at a party, we say that it was 10 people, we don't say that it was 700kg of people. Mol allows us to say the number of atoms or moleculs that are present instead of their weight.)
litmus
The simplest method is to determine the pH with a pH-paper or a pH-meter.
by using an indicator like litmus paper!!!
Litmus papers can only be used to determine whether the solution is acidic or basic. But from pH meter, the pH range of the solution can be determined.

pH paper will determine if a substance has basic or acidic qualities.

pH paper and litmus paper
Litmus paper will determine acid or base. Universal indicator paper (pH paper) will give an answer to the nearest whole number.
The simplest method is to determine the pH with a pH-paper or a pH-meter.
It depends on the litmus paper. If the paper is completely soiled, then the pH level of the water would be hard to determine. If part of the litmus paper is not soiled, then you can use it to determine the pH level of water. (tap water has a pH 6 because of the substances used to clean water) ~your mom's chest hair~

pH Paper. Litmus paper Hydrogen ions determine how acidic a solution is, the lower the number on the pH scale, the more acidic it is. The color for litmus paper would be a red it it was 1 and blue if it was a base.
Acidity or basicity is determined by the pH of the solution. A pH above 7 is basic, and a pH below 7 is acidic. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. To determine the pH, one usually uses a pH meter, a scientific instrument designed for that very purpose. To get a less accurate determination, one can use pH paper.
