Poseidon
Posiedon is angry with Odysseus because he blinded his son, the cyclops Polyphemus.
Polythemus was the cyclops that trapped Odysseus and his men in his cave. Odysseus then got him very drunk and told him his name was Nobody. When Polythemus passed out, Odysseus and his men blinded him. The neighboring Cyclopses didn't help him becasue Polythemus screamed "Nobody is killing me!". When they get off the land, Odysseus shouts his real name to Polythemus in a fit of arrogance. Polythemus prayed to his father, Poseidon to prevent Odysseus from returning home to Ithica. He is also the son of Thoosa, a nymph.
The gods, are pretty much, the fate holders. Gods are known to be arrogant, so it is always best to remain in their favor. Odysseus, in the first part of the Odyssey, upsets Poseidon, so the whole time Poseidon is trying to prevent Odysseus from going home. (He eventually makes it though.)
Poseidon is very upset with Odysseus so he captures him and his partner and they have to figure out how to defeat his monster. The goddess Athena tells them how to defeat it... She says you have to grab the doubled headed snake (monster) and keep holding onto it as it transforms into a lion and all sorts of creatures..... Odysseus and his partner defeat it!
She loves him and wants him to live with her.
What does Odysseus's failure to wake up and prevent his men from slaughtering the sun god's cattle signify? Eurylochus's skills as a leader the power of the gods Odysseus's exhaustion the disloyalty of the crew
