Primary Stage: a chancre appears and lasts 3 to 6 week. Then it disappears, and if untreated the infection progresses to the secondary stage.

Secondary syphilis: A skin rash appears anywhere, it usually heals within several weeks or months. At this stage syphilis becomes very contagious. It can be passed sexually and non sexually. If untreated the infection progresses to the Late and Latent.

Latent Stage: can last for years. Many people who are not treated will suffer from no further signs and symptoms of the disease.

Tertiary/Late syphilis: the desiease damages the heart, eyes, brain, nervous system, bones, joints, or almost any other part of the body. Symptoms of the late stage of syphilis:difficulty coordinating muscle movements, paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness, and dementia. This damage may be serious enough to cause death.
