A DMM measures resistance by passing a known current through the object you are measuring and reads the voltage. You can then calculate the resistance using the equation V=I*R.

R=V/I

So for 1mA and a return voltage of 1V the resistance must = 1 KOhm.

R= 1/0.001 = 1000 Ohm
