1. Have the intention to pray to God The One and Only in his / her heart. 2. Say: "In the Name of God, The Merciful, The Compassionate" before the washing. 3. Wash ( called making "Wudhu" ): First the hands three times. Rinse the mouth out well three times. ( a person should rinse vigorously - unless thay are fasting. While fasting, a person will perform this step, as well as the next step, carefully ). Rinse out the nose with water by inhaling slightly through the nostrils and then blowing out - also three times. This is the best way to clean the nose. It refreshes the person very well. Try it - even if you are not Muslim. The face, three times, covering all the face and wiping all the face - including forehead up to the hair line and down to the meeting of the jaw and the neck. The right arm three times. Cupping the water in your hand, you then raise the arm until the water pours down it and you make sure to wipe with your other hand covering the whole area of the arm - up to and including the elbows. If you wash more of the arm, it is even better - but the arm up to the elbow is required. Then the left arm - the same as the right arm - three times. Then you wet the hands and pass them over the top of the head - once back, and then forward again - one time. You make sure to get the back of the neck as well. Then with the same water, you clean in and around the ears - once, doing both ears at the same time. Then the right foot - in between the toes, then over the whole foot - wiping the foot up to the ankles three times. If you wash more up the leg than that it is even better - but not required. Then the left foot three times in the same manner. If you wore your socks after washing like this, then you can keep your socks on for one whole day and - instead of washing the feet each time you remake your "wudhu", you can just wipe the tops of your socks with a damp hand - the right first, then the left - one time each. If one is traveling, one may do this for up to three days. At the end of this time, one must remove the socks and wash the feet as before in order to make a proper "Wudhu". Then you say: "I bear witness that there is no god but the One God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. Oh God ( or Allah ), forgive me and have mercy on me" A person does not have to remake their "Wudhu" unless it is broken by something ( unless they want to renew it, which is very good ). The things which "break" the state of "Wudhu" are: sleeping, using the toilet, passing gas, bleeding or having sex. After sex, a person must make "Wudhu" and also complete it by a full bath or shower.

First, a Muslim must have the intention to pray.

Next, a Muslim must perform wudu, or ablution.

Finally, a clean place free of distractions is needed.

Muslims should know the direction of the qibla, towards the Kaaba in Mecca. If they do not know and cannot find out, they can simply make an educated guess.

Cleanliness is very essential in Islam. Therefore for each prayer one has to prepare by washing called Wudu. This involves wasting your hands, face and head and feet. If you are in a state of impurity due to sexual intercourse, contamination of your clothes or body with filth or for ladies who have just finished their periods it is essential that they have a bath before prayers.
