Can a multi tap ballast be rewired to accept a different voltage after it has been working on another?

Yes. The other voltage taps will be capped of with some type in an insulation material. Choose the new voltage tap that you want to run the ballast on and connect it to the incoming "hot" wire. Insulate the old tap with an insulation material.

When voltage increase then current will be?

it depends on what type of load. Motor amperage will drop off as voltage rises. loads such as lights will increase amperage with voltage rise.

How do you calculate voltage drop for starting motor current and how to get the starting pf?

Do you need a ballast for every type of HID bulb?

All high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs, and all fluorescent bulbs, require a ballast, which is a device that limits current. It can raise the voltage and/or heat the bulb cathodes.

What is the difference between electrical choke electronic ballast choke?

Ballast is purely a coil simply inductor that controls the current supplied to the tube. Of which there will be some loss and drop in power factor. Yet it is a good system which can handle the voltage fluctuations in the input. An electronic choke has 2 diode bridges and 2 major capacitors, by which the voltage and current supplied are controlled. The circuit operates in three stages. Voltage boosting is good and immediate, also eliminates starter. But this creates harmonics in the system which may disturb other systems if produced in large and it also cant handle the fluctuations.

What is the principle of operation of a ballast?

Older ballasts with an iron core are basically an autotransformer. They transform voltage to a higher voltage with a single winding. Electronic transformers increase voltage with capacitors and diodes.

What does ballast mean?

Electricity. Also called ballast resistor. a device, often a resistor, that maintains the current in a circuit at a constant value by varying its resistance in order to counteract changes in voltage. a device that maintains the current through a fluorescent or mercury lamp at the desired constant value, sometimes also providing the necessary starting voltage and current.

Can a Universal (ballast) B234SR277M-A0001 replace a Universal B234SR120M-A0001. (This is in a commercial building)?

By looking at the ballast numbers I would say that they can not be substituted. The number 277 in the model number of the first ballast is the voltage supply needed to operate the ballast. The number 120 in the mofel number of the second ballast is the voltage supply needed to operate this ballast. The system looks to be operating on 120 volts as this is the ballast that you want to replace. The ballast that operates on 277 volts is for a three phase four wire system of 277/480. There are multi tap ballast in the market place that are totally universal and have voltage taps for supply voltages of 120, 240, 277,347,480 and 600 volts. You just have to chose the correct voltage tap that the lighting circuit is using. The other taps have to be capped off and taped because when this type of ballast is connected the other taps have a voltage potential on them.

How can you attach a 120 v Light Fixture to a 277 v system do I need a ballast so what kinda of ballast?

need a universal voltage ballast 120/277 volt or a 277volt ballast

What to use to power a sodium bulb?

Sodium lamps use a ballast that can be powered from multiple voltage supplies. The ballast has tri or quad tap primaries and you select the tap for the voltage that is on hand.

How many amps does a 1000 watt ballast use?

To answer this question the voltage of the ballast must be stated and the type of lamp in the fixture.

What is the purpose of a ballast resistor in a car?

a ballast resistor drops voltage. In chrysler products it drops to six (6) volts.

Can a high voltage 24kv power line with varying current cause a sodium vapor lamp to malfunction turn off if the inductive ballast is within a few feet of the power lines?

Probably not seeing as how the ballast is enclosed in a grounded, totally enclosed enclosure. The ballast incorporates a special starting device to provide high voltage spikes between the lamps main electrodes. Try changing this device out for a new one.

What voltage mercury lamp works?

the supply voltage to a mercury vapour lamp (from the electromagnetic ballast) is 130vac

Why does your electronic ballast hum?

Electronic ballast does not hum as much as a choke. Minute hum of electronic ballast is the small inductor and capacitor producing an oscillation for high voltage generation,

Can T8 LED tube light be used with ballast and can ballast be removed and will it work?

A T8 LED tube has to be used with a ballast to bring the correct voltage to the tube for it to operate correctly. Removing the ballast from the circuit will prevent the tube from operating.
