Best Answer

The ringing of a bell is a fairly complicated physical process. Basically when a bell is struck, the shape of the bell is slightly deformed by the creation of a "shockwave" or ripple of pressure that will move outward from the point of impact. This ripple in the metal of the bell reverberates quickly back and forth from the point of impact, to the opposite side of the bell, then back again which creates a wave pattern. The rapid movement of this slight distortion of the bell will generate sound waves as the movement of the metal displaces the air surrounding it. The waves running through the bell will be transferred into the air, creating the ringing sound that you hear.

It vibrates, like all things that produce sound, and causes shockwaves to ripple through the air.

The sound that a bell makes is known as a "ring" or "toll"

If it's a little bell, it's a ringing noise. "Ding"

If it's bigger, it's tolling. "Dong"

What is extinction in psychology?

Extinction is a basic phenomenon (event, incident) of learning that occurs when a previously conditioned response decreases in frequency and eventually disappears. Basically, if you taught your dog that it was time to eat by ringing a bell and then giving him food he would run up to you excited that he was going to be fed every time he heard the bell. If you continued to ring the bell without giving him the food he would eventually forget that you taught him that the bell means dinner time. When he forgets this and no longer associates the bell with food it is called extinction.

What is Pavlov's experiment into the conditioning of dogs?

Pavlov would ring a bell then feed his dogs. He did this for a long time. Then whenever he would ring the bell his dogs would begin to salivate (drool) in anticipation of their food. Basically, he trained his dogs so that they associated the sound of the bell with receiving their food, and therefore whenever they heard a bell they anticipated food and began to drool. It's "conditioned" response, not "unconditional." Conditioned means that they would just give that response naturally, not like "trained" behavior in which the dog would know that "sit" meant he should sit down, and then do it voluntarily. The dog was not thinking, "OK, there's a bell, so that means I should drool now." The drooling (salivating) would happen all by itself. I mean, a human can sit on purpose, right? but you can't drool on purpose, except by thinking about food.

Do you have a dog put to sleep for peeing in the house?

I don't think you should.He/she just needs to know to hold it until he/she gets to go outside to go to the bathroom.I would suggest training your dog with a bell,or to bark at the door.Teaching him/her to ring the bell when he/she needs to go to the bathroom. If this doesn't work,I suggest getting an experienced professional to help train your dog.
