Covalent bonding elements share electrons between the atoms. Oxygen is never found in the form ' O '. In the atmosphere, it is always, O2. This is because oxygen wants to gain two electrons to have 8 valence electrons. The two atoms then 'share' the electrons completing both their outer shells.
Ionic bonding occurs, generally, when a metal and a non-metal are bonded. The metals(group A metals: transition metals act differently), attempting to gain 8 electrons in their outer valence shells, want to drop the number of electrons equivalent to their group number (only with group A metals). Gases, attempting to gain electrons, generally equivalent to 8 - Group Number. When these two atoms meet, the want to form ionic bonds because the metals want to give their electrons to the gases who want them. They do not share these electrons. The two atoms are then drawn together because the metal has a positive charge and the gas has a negative charge.
Ex - Fluorine, having a group number of 7A (which means fluorine has 7 valence electrons) wants to gain one electron. Lithium, being of group 1A, wants to give up one electron. When Lithium comes in contact with Fluorine, they pair, and become Lithium Floride: LiFl.
To sum up, the main difference between covalent bonding and ionic bonding is:
in ionic bonding, electrons TRANSFER from a metal to a gas. In covalent bonding, electrons are shared between two gases.
An ionic bond involves a transfer of electrons from one atom to another . Covalent bonds involve a sharing.
covelant bonads use prefixes & ionicbonds do not
Silver Nitrate is not a covelant bond it is and Ionic
Nonpolar Covelant
If you mean ionic, covelant or metallic: Metallic bonding is between 2 metal atoms. Ionic bonding is betwen non metal and metal atoms. Covelant bonding is between 2 non-metals.
The bond between carbon and oxygen in C2O is considered to be covalent, as both carbon and oxygen atoms share electrons to form a stable bond. Ionic bonds involve the transfer of electrons from one atom to another, which is not the case in this molecule.
You have to now the VSERP theory. The number of valence electrons determine the polarity of the molecule as well of the electronegativities of the elements involved. The less symmetric the molecule the more polar it is.

Aluminium is a chemical element, metal and form ionic bonds.
The method of bond formation is stealing electrons and other things because the element needs as much electrons as it can to become positive and dominate the atom and become a covelant bond which is better and more efficiant for atoms.

they would actually have a covelant transferring bond. that was probably supposed to be one of the choices you put, right?-this is incorrect. a covalent bond is formed when the electrons of atoms are shared. In this case, the valence electron of the sodium(NA) is transferred to the chlorine(Cl) atom, then the opposite charges are attracted. this is an ionic bond and this is how sodiumchloride is formed.**this is an ionic bond.
