There are a large number of veins and capillaries that fan the large ears. As the elephant flaps the ears, the air removes the heat from the elephant. This is every much like how a fan removes heat from a heat sink of the computer processor or a car radiator.
Elephants are like rabbits in that their blood circulates through their ears and cools the blood. The blood is close to the surface and gets cooled. This is the same principle of a car's radiator that is used to cool the engine. It takes heat from their body and the heat radiated out their ears.
The ears of the elephant has a great number of blood vessels that run through it. When the elephant flaps its ears, the blood that is passing through its ears get cooled and eventually the body temperature of the animal gets regulated. Since elephants in Africa live in the hot savannah, they have large ears that help the animal keep itself cool.
it flaps it's big ears back and forth to keep cool
increase of surface area promote transpiration = the evaporation of water by sun etc. flapping of ears can also cool down animal by creating current of air
Elephant ears have a very large surface area to volume ratio - with blood vessels spread out throughout. This means that the blood vessels are close to the surface, allowing for heat to radiate out. Elephants can also use their ears to fan themselves with - they are large so create a nice breeze.
The elephant uses his ears to cool his body in two ways. The actual movement of the ear produces small relief, but the excess surface area allows the blood to cool before returning to the major organs.
p
wave them
flap them or spray water on there selfs
an elephant uses its ears to keep cool by flapping them around its head therefor keeping it cool
an elephant uses its ears to keep cool by flapping them around its head therefor keeping it cool
by fanning them and the body heat runs to the veins in the ears and is loft cooling the body down
