In the past royal marriages were arranged to make political alliances. That doesn't happen today but you know for sure that if the royal family thought another royal from Another Country would be a good match, they would arrange some sort of social gathering where the young people could meet. They would have to see where it goes from there. It has lately become more usual to see a royal European prince marry a commoner but that is a relatively recent thing. More usual is that, because of the social circles they are involved in, a royal prince is likely to marry a very distant relative because they have the same "credentials".
