Who was the first scientist demonstrate that white light was composed of the light of all the colours of the rainbow?

Sir Isac Newton, he did this by shining a light on a glass prism in a dark room. The prism separated the white light into the colour spectrum we know today. There are actually colours in it that we can't see

What was Issac Newton the first to demostrate?

Newton was the first to demonstrate that white light was composed of colored lights.

How can you prove that white light is composed of several colours?

You may use a glass prism and shine a white light through it. You will notice that there is rainbow of colours on the wall.

Why does the diamond show flashes of color when observe ordinary white light?

White light is composed from all the colours shown in a rainbow. The facets on a diamond acts like a prism and separates the white light into a flash of rainbow colours.

Why does the spectrum appear when White light is shone into a prism?

because the prism splits the white light into all colors of visible light

What causes a prism to show colored light when you look into white light?

This is because when the white light it's the prism, the colours separate and change speeds.

What can be separated with a prism?

White light.

What bends white light?

prism

How did isac newton prove white light was composed of many colours?

It was already known that, when white light went through a prism, the light that came out was multi-colored. This meant either (1) the white light was made up of light of different colors or (2) when going through a prism, the white light had become contaminated, in the same way that clear water is colored by contaminants. Newtown showed that the multi-colored light could be re-combined into pure white light by going through a second prism. If idea (2) was correct, the light should have gotten MORE contaminated, and been MORE colorful. If (1) was correct, the light would re-combine into white light. When the experiment found that white light resulted from a second prism, idea (1) was shown to be correct.

Why does a prism reflect colors?

White light is actually composed of all the wavelengths of visible light combined. When white light hits the glass in the prism, the speed of the individual wavelengths change and they leave at different angles then they entered. Since each wavelength making up white light is a different length, they each leave at a slightly different angle. This separates the colours and causes you to see the refraction pattern.

What is the Visible?

White light is composed of many colours. When these colours combine, they look white. One way of showing that white light is composed of different colours is to make white light pass through a glass prism. This splits up the white light into its constituent colours. I f you hold a screen in its path, you will see a band of colours. This band of colours is called the spectrum. Since it is visible to human eyes, it is called the visible spectrum.
