A Hypothesis is a statement or objective one has set out to test or query.

eg An unsupported object will fall when dropped.

This can be proved or disproved through experimentation. After testing the above hypothesis multiple times (with a scientific method) one can deduce the statement that all unsupported objects fall when dropped.

Through more study one can form a scientific theory to explain the happenings in the experimentation. Using the about example the theory of Gravity and its effect on objects can be formed. A scientific theory can be disproven after formation.

TLDR: first comes unproven hypothesis, then after experimentation a scientific theory is formed.

A theory can be tested. The results of experiments are said to confirm or refute theories. The theory may still be proven wrong by some future test, but once a test can be devised (whether or not it is conducted) a hypothesis becomes a theory. Newton's theory of gravity and Einstein's theory of special relativity are examples of theories that have survived numerous tests. Newton's gravitation theory has, incidentally, been superseded by Einstein's general theory of Relativity.

once a hypothesis has been supported in repeated experiments, scientists can begin to develop a theory.

Do science students produce a theory or a hypothesis?

They produce a hypothesis. A theory requires extensive support.

Is a hypothesis is more certain than a theory in science?

No. A theory is more certain: it is a hypothesis which has had some supporting evidence.

What does evidence mean in science?

To have data that justifies your theory/hypothesis.

What is the hypotisis?

A hypothesis is a form of theory normally dealing with science.

What is an explanation in science that has a lot of evidence to back it up?

I think it is theory

Which term best describes the phrase the best explanation that science has to offer?

hypothesis

How would compare a hypothesis and theory as pertaining to science?

Here is a possible comparison of a hypothesis and a theory in science: A hypothesis is basically an educated guess, where nothing has been tested yet, whereas a theory is a hypothesis that has been tested over and over, numerous times, with the same results.

What is a science answer to a science question?

Usually the current 'answer' to a scientific problem would be called a theory. However when used in an experiment people refer to the current answer to a problem as the nul hypothesis and the new, to be tested, theory as the alternative hypothesis.

Is evolution a theory or hypothesis?

Evolution is an observed and observable fact. The theory of evolution by natural selection explains many things about evolution. The theory generates testable hypothesis, as any good theory does. Remember, theory is the highest concept in science.

A proposed explanation for an observation whish has not been experimentally tested?

What is a hypothesis? (plural: hypotheses) I'll take Science Experiment terms for $1,000, Alex.

In science what's theory?

A concept (hypothesis) that has been "thoughly" tested (against reality).
