Probably depends on the species. Some lay in the muddy bottom of rivers or lakes with their mouth open and wait for fish or other aquatic creatures to swim into it. I kid you not, that's really what they do. They have a small appendage in their mouth that wiggles and looks a lot like a worm or other small fleshy wiggly thing which small fish and shellfish may find appetizing.
They also bite your toes off when you step on/near them.
Well I only just found this out myself. Apparently they only "hunt" once every 2 weeks. This is due to there poor mobility and lazy snapping attitudes. But when they do go a hunting it is a true spectacle to witness. They first begin by starting a huge fire then very aquatically dance to the beatings of baby seals. After smearing their faces with the blood of the innocent they begin there hunt. Oh yeah to answer your question they prefer to use a gun.
