What does it mean when you have lots of gas when your pregnant?

The reason you have more gas than usual is because you have much higher levels of progesterone. It relaxes smooth muscle tissue throughout your body, including your gastrointestinal tract. This relaxation slows down your digestion, which can lead to gas, bloating, burping, and farting. So it means you are normal. And normally when not pregnant you have about 2 liters of air/day that have to get out.

What causes gas in your stomach?

Some foods cause gas when they digest in the intestines. The gas is liberated by the intestinal bacteria eating sugars and starches. The majority of gas results from swallowing air while eating and drinking. Chew with your mouth shut and don't talk while eating. The gas contains nitrogen, methane and hydrogen. Odours are generally due to sulfurous compounds.
