Alcohol inhibits ADH (anti-diuretic hormone, which creates a concentrated urine to keep more water for use in the body). This causes the Loop of Henle in the kidneys to NOT reuptake water as it normally would with the release of ADH. So you create a more dilute urine (more water and sodium), causing dehydration, low blood volume (once you have stopped consuming alcohol) and low blood pressure. This is what causes hangover symptoms!
