The ameba is a single celled organism, and engulfs its food by using 1) Psuedopods 2) Cell membrane. The ameba surrounds its food with their psuedopods, meaning their "legs" but not really since they don't actually have legs. Next, using their cell membrane, the food is pushed inside.

First, the ameoba moves slowly towards its prey. Well, it has to move slowly though. Anyways, its prey is just sitting there, and since it's usally clear, the prey can't see it. so while the prey is there, it wraps itself around the prey, swallows it, and eats it. There ya go!

The amoebae extends pseudopodia by extending it's membrane by building microtubles from tubulin subunits. The pseudopodia it extends surrounds the food, a bacterium for instance, and the amoebae pulls itself up to the food item and engulfs it.

Sending out two pseudopodia to surround the food item and then pulling itself up to the food item where the amoeba engulfs the food item by endocytosis.
