Tom Robinson had a shorter arm than the other which is uncommon in the Black community in Maycomb County so he could not have choked her with his right arm and abuse her (rape her) in the way that Mayella described it to be. In the end Atticus comes to the conclusion that it was Mr. Edwell (her father) that abused her.
