How does big bang start?

At this point in our understanding of our Universe, we are like Johannes Kepler after having observed that planets orbit our Sun in ellipses. We know the "what" (our Universe 13.7 billion years ago was denser and has been expanding ever since) but we don't know the cause behind it. Just like we had to wait for a century to find out the cause of elliptical orbits (Newton's Law of Gravity), we'll just have to wait to understand the origin of the Big Bang.

Thankfully, nobody at Kepler's time said, "Because you can't explain the CAUSE of elliptical planetary orbits, they must not be a correct description of our Universe."
