The Capsicum or Pepper is treated as an annual plant (replaced each year with fresh stock) and is grown in warm season/climates.

It does not tolerate cold weather.

Capsicums normally grow to a height of only 3 to 400mm, producing small white flowers from which the fruit develop. Intially green, the fruit, depending on variety vary greatly in shape and colour from green to black/dark burgundy and all shades of yellow orange and red in between. Typically a green capsicum is an unripe version of it's variety, changing colour as it ripens. The most commonly known capsicum is referred to as a bell pepper which when ripe is a vibrant red, sweet in flavour.
