Changing a DNA can effect you from a varying level. It can go from turning your eyes to a different color to having a sixth finger.

DNA tells us who we are, and our EVERY character traits. If one trait is changed into a different one, it can be a simple, harmless change or a chain reaction that can be fatal. Huntington's disease is a hereditary disorder (meaning you get it from your parent(s)) that damages the brain. If a normal person's Huntington's disease gene is activated (which is impossible, because you can ONLY get it from your parents), they will die.

No, the DNA is fragile and will get destroyed easy. it also must enter your cell to change you. if that does happen then that one cell will undergo apoptosis and kill itself to to reproduce altered DNA

Eating DNA will not alter your DNA, In fact, we eat it all the time! Every time you eat vegetables or beef or pork, you eat DNA. The DNA you eat is inside of the cells of the food. When you eat food, the cells get broken down by digestive enzymes like pepsin or trypsin and whatnot. Then the DNA (and RNA) is broken down by several nucleaces. These then travel in your bloodstream where they will be used as your own DNA nucleotides and whatnot.

Yes - these are known as mutations. They can be caused by environmental factors such as nuclear radiation, or mistakes made when DNA is replicated.

DNA carries genes which effects a person's traits. If DNA changes, the genes will change which then changes to different traits.

What causes a feature in living things to change so that this change is passed to their offspring?

The change must happen in the gametes of the organism. More specifically the change must occurs in the DNA that is used to make up their offspring. The main cause of this change in creatures that re-produce sexually is the process of crossing over.
