The main idea of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw written by Jeff Kinney is that Greg's dad is tired of Greg's lazy and wimpy ways. Greg's father signs him up for soccer but Greg is terrible and his father gets humiliated by a article written in the local newspaper about Greg. Then Greg's father makes the threat of him going to Military School for the entire summer. Though Greg does not really change his wimpy ways his father does not really make him go to Military School. Greg's dad final word on it is "maybe you can just do a few push ups over the summer". The book ends with Greg getting out of the 7th grade, and being ready for summer. His activities over the summer are chronicled in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.
