Conduction is the transfer of energy by contact while convection is the transfer when liquid particles move in a cyclic manner when it is heated.
conduction's heat energy is sometimes transfered between two different objects. But convection's heat energy is transfered through the particles in a liquid or gas move.
is it conduction, convection or radiation
If heat is transferred by waves, we call it radiation. If it is transferred by particles in contact it is conduction, and if the particles move to carry the heat it is convection.
Matter is needed to transfer thermal energy by conduction and convection. Conduction happens through a substance when there is a difference in thermal energies between regions. Convection is the movement within a fluid caused by hotter material to rise and colder material to sink and transfer heat.

Conduction, convection and radiation TRANSFER heat; you can't create heat; the law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, you can't create heat.
the particles will move closer together
Heat is conducted from one end of the rod to the other by atoms transferring energy from one to the next. Heat is energy given off by rapidly moving particles. As the heated particles move, they bump particles next to them. Those particles begin to move, then the next, and next, and so forth on down the rod.
As a particle absorbs the energy (heat) it begins to move and vibrate faster. This increased vibration and movement causes it to bump into surrounding particles more, passing the energy onto them. As more particles get bumped, more particles start to move in turn bumping their neighbors and conducting the energy or heat through the substance.
yes both require the use of matter. conduction is basically passing heat from one particle to the next. convertion is heating a cold fluid and the hot particles move, allowing more cold particles to take their place and be heated. Hot air from a radiator raises, cold air moves in to take its place and is heated etc.
