evolution is the theory that natural selection changes a species' traits over time. We've done this artificially when we domesticated wolves all the way down to lap dogs. The way we did it was we took groups of dogs that had traits or characters that we wanted. We would then have them mate so that their kids would be more likely to have those traits.

*If two wolves were slightly more playful then the rest of the pack and we wanted a playful dog, we would mate those two together.

sometimes though, if we are not careful we might make some genetic diseases stronger by mating organisms of a species together that have a stronger chance of carrying that disease. This is why cockier spaniels are prone to some eye diseases.
