The Antarctic food chain exists in the Southern Ocean which surrounds the continent. There is no food chain on land.

The Southern Ocean food chain operates like every other ocean sea chain -- except that this one is the shortest food chain.

a food chain works likes this organisms on the bottom like plants are eaten by organisms on the next level like deer and then they are eaten by organisms on the top like wolves that then die and decompose and create food and soil for plants and the process repeats

One readily recognized food chain would be found in the African savannah: Suppose you see a Grevys zebra eating the grass. Along comes a pack of Hyenas, and they eat the zebra. But a group of lionesses hears the commotion and feeds upon a hyena or two. THAT's a food chain.

Let us begin with the definition of the commonly used term 'food chain'. It is the process of living things eating one another to obtain energy.

A food chain can be displayed with Arrows. Example-

Leaf -----> Caterpillar -----> Bird

They move from the highest number of animals to the lowest. There are more leaves than caterpilars. This is because of the 10% Law. This states that when a living thing eats another living thing, it only gains 10% of its energy. For my information, visit wikipedia.com- though the info might seem to advanced. There are some great sites on the web where you can try building your own food chains. These will give you a better understanding.

Well, that's all, my dear! God bless you.

A food chain is simply who eats what, and then what is that eaten by. You must consider what is normal and common, because there are always anomalies. There are many variations on a normal food chain. Here is one example: Plankton are eaten by krill, which are eaten by penguins, which are eaten by seals, which are eaten by killer whales. Plankton are at the bottom of this chain and killer whales are at the top.

A food chain shows the different organisms that live in a habitat and what eats what. Producers and consumers A food chain always starts with a producer, which is an organism that makes its own food. This organism is usually a green plant and uses a process called photosynthesis. A food chain ends with a consumer, which is an animal that eats a plant or another animal. A consumer that eats plants is called a herbivore, and a consumer that eats other animals is called a carnivore. An animal that eats both plants and animals is called an omnivore. Predators and prey A predator is an animal that eats other animals. They prey is the animal that gets eaten by the predator. Hope this helps
