Global warming affects the food chain by creating scarcity in certain parts of the food chain. This scarcity has an effect on all other parts food chain system. Scarcity in one part of the food chain affects the entire food system.

∙ 13y agoShould Global Warming occur it would increase food production in some areas. It could also turn many of the present crop-growing areas into desert. There would certainly be negative issues involved with the climate warming.
Most science groups and the IPCC claim that global warming of less then 1 degree C would allow for an increase in food production. The science seems to tell us both answers may be correct.
If we look back to warmer periods of history then ours currently, such as the 1400's we see that Greenland had far more ability to produce crops then today. As the glaciers increased, the Norwegians that colonized this area actually stationed priests whose duty was to pray for the glaciers to stop advancing.
Grapes were also grown in areas that are still too cool today to grow them.
The bottom line is that crops may transfer their locations slightly, but overall the conscience is that crop production would increase.

∙ 9y agoSimplistically, global warming could increase food production, as more land becomes warm enough for productive agriculture. However, global warming is also associated with climate change, including more prolonged drought in some regions and more frequent severe flooding in others. The result of climate change could be to reduce global food production, balancing any positive effect of higher temperatures.
