iThe heart is basically a pump-it has special capillaries which keep it pumping. Only the atriums pump-they lead into two ventricles-one side is oxygenated blood and the other side (which has gone round the body and now has to go back to the lungs) de oxygenated blood.

The blood comes (oxygenated) from the lungs into the pulmonary vein, which is on the left side of the heart. It then flows into the left ventricle and flows out through the aorta. The blood goes around the body, giving out oxygen. The blood returns to the heart (deoxygenated) through the vena cava and into the right ventricle. The blood blood goes through the pulmonary artery, and back to the lungs, and the whole process starts again.

∙ 10y agoThe normal electrical conduction in the heart allows the impulse that is generated by the sinoatrial node (SA node) of the heart to be propagated to (and stimulate) the myocardium (Cardiac muscle). The myocardium contracts after stimulation. It is the ordered stimulation of the myocardium that allows efficient contraction of the heart, thereby allowing blood to be pumped throughout the body.
