Ultimately, the body's immune system is depleted. Disease sets in. The body can no longer fight disease off, and the person begins a decline that will eventually result in death.

HIV distrupts the immune's system's ability to fight infection. This allows pathogens to overwhelm it, and eventually, prevent it from protecting you from disease.

∙ 13y agoAIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a condition that is caused by HIV (Huma Immunodeficiency Virus) infection. HIV attacks the part of the body that fights disease. The body uses white blood cells to fight infection but HIV needs these cells for reproduction.
HIV attaches to immune cells and reprograms them to become virus factories. When this happens, the cell is no longer able to fight infection. Over the course of time, immune function can be severely impacted to the point of endangering a person's life.
