A laser can detect the distance of an object as well as an object's reflectance, or intensity. To detect the distance of the laser source to a particular object, the round trip travel times of a laser pulse are accurately measured and recorded from the source, to the target and back. Since the speed of the laser pulse is known, using the formula distance = velocity * time, the distance can be calculated. Laser sensors can also record the amount of light returned from a target surface, which is characterized by its reflection coefficient and its surface properties. For example snow would be the highest reflectance and asphalt would be one of the lowest.

How does the laser works?

The laser works by reflecting and amplifying a beam of light through a tube of mirrors.

Why do we use radio waves in radar why not other waves?

"Radar" comes from RAdio Detection And Ranging. If it didn't use radio it would be called something else.LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) is laser instead of radio. That uses light.

What is a laser detection used for?

A Laser Detection is used to monitor one's speed. It helps eliminate traffic offenses for individuals as they would insert this device in their vehicle.

What makes up laser light and how is it used?

Laser light is different from ordinary light. Laser light consists of light waves that all have the same wavelength, or color. The waves are coherent, or in step. A laser is a device that produces a narrow beam of coherent light. The word laser comes from a phrase that describes how it works: light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Light amplification means that the light is strengthened. Stimulated emission means that the atoms emit light when exposed to electromagnetic radiation.

What is a laser light with holograph?

a laser light with a holograph is a laser light with holograph.

What sort of threat detection system does the Coyote have?

Laser range warning receiver. The laser range warning receiver provides the Coyote with 360 degrees of detection on enemies and their targeting systems

Can a laser be made from a light bulb?

No. Laser light is coherent. Light bulb light is not.

How does a bar code laser scanner work?

A bar code laser scanner works by shining a bright light (laser light) at the barcode and measuring the reflected beam. In order to scan the entire barcode very quickly, the light is bounced off a spinning disk to cover the entire barcode in one pass.

How do you perform frequency signal processing on 3d laser scanner images so that the colours match those of an ordinary camera photograph?

That would be hard, if not impossible. Lasers work purely by reflection back from an object. Colour information comes from the frequency of light. Your detection equipment would have to simultaneously detect the laser light and the different frequencies of light.

How is a laser printer used?

It works throug laser

What are the obstacle detection methods?

There are a variety of competing methods that have been proposed for obstacle detection and many papers written on such methods. There have been few papers, however, which have offered more than a trivial comparison of the various methods, especially in any analytical fashion. All systems have their drawbacks, and almost all methods are susceptible to problems caused by environmental conditions such as ambient lighting (or lack thereof) or precipitation. A vehicle-mounted optical flow system is unlikely to be successful for static obstacle detection, but that a stereo system is likely feasible for obstacle detection in daylight. Current laser range-based methods have not been proven at highway distances and are too expensive as a solution for consumer vehicle obstacle detection. Laser intensity has been ignored as a potential solution by most researchers. Radar, while an excellent means of detecting vehicles, is an unlikely candidate for detecting small static obstacles because of their relatively low radar cross section. It is likely that multiple detection methods will be necessary for reliability. For example, the combination of stereo and laser shows promise since stereo works well in daylight, and a laser system works best in little or no ambient light.

What tools do scientists use to measure the sea floor?

LIDARLIDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. LIDAR sends laser light from the bottom of an airplane to the sea floor. The light reflects back to the airplane.LIDAR measures the time it takes for the reflections to return to the airplane.
