Well, the carbon dioxide we breathe in and out is a gas. We don't ACTUALLY breathe it, but we breathe it and back out. Littering, such as garbage, pollution and smoking. Causes the air to stink. Yes, even though it takes billions of years for it to spread. Eventually, it's gonna spread. When it spreads, our lungs will be breathing unclean air, causing us to die.
