By backing up computer files regularly, you have protection against viruses that cause file corruption. When files get corrupted data is lost. Having a back of your files, you can restore everything to what is was before the virus attacked the computer.
You can restore your computer back to a time when it was not infected. There is no point making a backup of an infected computer. Backups are usually the final solution to many computer infections.

by saving the important data and making your computer will not be damaged in any sort of way (E.G computer exploding) and making sure that viruses are not infiltrating your computer. there is also another alternative where you can copy the specific file on to a memory stick to secure that the information is saved.
Viruses are called viruses because, like real-world viruses (e.g., influenza and so on), they 'infect' a computer and often spread throughout it by making copies of themselves and making their code part of other programs. Viruses don't usually spread from computer to computer on their own, instead relying on users to pass on infected files or copies of the virus to other users, such as by email.

Computer Viruses were JavaScript before windows was made. windows was a cmd effect before windows 95 came out! when windows 95 came out Microsoft forgot to put a JavaScript on windows 95 and cracked the computer viruses and the viruses got released out of the JavaScript and the viruses spread around in programs the internet in downloads in hacking tools and websites! and then a couple of years later in 1999 Microsoft thought of a spyware remover program "Norton." Norton was the first spyware remover, but there was no way removing all the viruses. viruses are geting created each day. and then in 1984 the first apple computer came what started the very first virus the first virus was called a trojan horse. and then apple start to make viruses and locked all up intil the virus broke out of the javascript.
this all depends on which part of the world you live in but generally you can make backups of any copyrighted material you own provided they are only for your personal use and you retain ownership of the original.
