The first choice of any snake would be to flee and hide. If that doesn't work, all sea snakes are highly venomous.
Porcupines have sharp spines on their back which will harm predators if they touch them. Porcupines also can blend in with its natural surroundings.
In the United States, the most famous examples would be the venomous coral snake, and the nonvenomous Pueblan milk snake and Scarlet king snake, which uses their similar coloring as a form of self-protection (known to zoologists as mimicry.)
