The CD has tiny pits in a metal layer that are read by a LASER beam as binary 1s and 0s. These 1s and 0s are assembled into streams of digital samples of the sound along with error checking/correcting bits. The digital samples of the sound are fed through a digital to analog converter, which recreates the original electronic analog sound signals. These electronic analog sound signals are amplified and fed to either speakers or headphones so you can hear the recorded sounds.
Get a stereo connector for this purpose at Radio Shack (under $5.00). Or you can burn CDs on your computer, and play them.

If at somepoint you stored or copied the contents to your computer and didn't pay attention to where you stored them, the most likely place the computer stored the files (by default) will be in a file called "my documents" and perhaps a sub folder called "my music" If the files are stored to your computer, you would have, at some point, selected an "ok" button to download them to your computer or save them to a file.

The robotic laser ball moves to music that is being played. It does not actually make its own music. Put it on Music mode and place it near a radio or stereo and there you go!!
Your music played in iTunes is stored on your computer and playing it does not add anything to your download limitations.
